SURGIVAL in collaboration with the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona

(Training day to the first class of Biomedical Engineering Graduates from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona).

On Tuesday, March 5, SURGIVAL gave a seminar at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona on “Process Design and Development of Medical Device”. This talk was given by the Head of the R+D+i Department, Mr. Sergio Garcia David.

The objective of this training day was aimed at giving an overview of industrial application to the first class of Biomedical Engineering Graduates from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona and, specifically, under the subject “Biomaterials”.
During the seminar, a special emphasis was made in the biomaterials used in the manufacture of implants and prostheses in the field of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, as well as in the design and development processes through improved computer-aided design, engineering and manufacturing (CAD / CAE / CAM).

Throughout the day, the instrumentation system of knee design GENUTECH® was shown as an example at its different stages, as well as a virtual simulation and preclinical evaluation through workshops. Finally, a real life example was shown of an operation in which our own SURGIVAL Genutech ®  primary knee prosthesis was implanted. Thus an emphasize was made in the importance of collaboration with surgeons to develop any type of medical device.
Let us point out that, students actively participated in the presentation, and so did Dr. Antonio Molina (Deputy Spine Unit of Hospital del Mar and associate professor at UPF), Mr. Óscar Cámara (Professor of the Department of the Information Technologies and Communications of Pompeu Fabra University and teacher coordinator  of Biomedical Engineering Grade of ESUP) and Mr. Carlos María López (UPC professor and associate professor at the Polytechnic School UPF) that enriched with comments and experience a very instructive day for everyone.
This way SURGIVAL takes another step closer to business reality, to future professionals in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology as well as the academic and research enviroments.
